The Leghorn Cottage – The Perfect Chicken Coop for 4 Chickens
Our coop is a perfect starter coop and Measures: 76”long x 31.5″wide.
Eggcellent for your small backyard flock! So why does it say 4+ chickens? There are factors to consider… what chicken breeds are you getting, are you able to let them free range? We recommend taking a look at the measurements and seeing what you feel comfortable with.
Keep in mind the chickens share nesting boxes and stand side by side on the roosting rods!
This strong, high-quality backyard chicken coop for 4+ chickens allows you to take comfort that your girls are safe from harmful predators. Providing comfort, room and an invite for fresh egg production, this coop serves wonderfully for your backyard chickens, ducks, quail or pheasant.
It is made from non-splintering fir timber and is painted with a water-based primer coat. Many families have painted their coop to match their home and you certainly can! We recommend putting a layer of lacquer, paint, or stain on it once it’s set up as the wood will be settling in place you’ll want to put that coating on at the beginning and whenever you feel it needs it in the future!
The hen house door slides open and closes using a metal handle (this allows you to secure your hens at night very easily). There is 15 inches of clearance under the chicken house providing additional coop space for the hens to roam.
One of the things you will notice about the original Leghorn Cottage chicken coop is that the chicken run extends under the nesting box. MANY other chicken coops that are being sold online do not have any support under their nesting boxes. Without support, the nesting boxes will start to sag within a VERY short period of time.
We also have a heavy plastic flashing that goes above the nest box roof panel. Each roof panel has a hard plastic lining to further insulate and weatherproof the coop! Our coops are SOLID and well built! But since it’s a wooden chicken coop and will be outside 24/7 we again, STRONGLY recommend that you stain, lacquer or paint your coop.
The stain applied is a base coat that is not designed to protect your coop long-term from the elements. Often in transit parts can get dinged or scratched etc. You may need to touch up your coop before staining or painting it! Once set up we recommend anchoring it down, this can be as simple as a stake on each side of the hen house and enclosed run area.
To upgrade your coop setup, consider our chicken coop heater for safe heating during the cold winter months, chicken waterer for steady hydration, and the predator-proof chicken coop kit to bolster the security for your hens.
Easy Assembly Instructions (Note since this video we have added two additional doors which makes accessing all point of the run area much easier)
Each piece is labeled and the instructions were written by us =) We are here and happy to assist in any way that we can. There are a ton of coops out there but VERY few that are thought out to the extent the Leghorn Cottage 4+ chicken coop with a run has been and even fewer that are built as well as the Leghorn Cottage is built! It will arrive in two boxes! You will need a power screw driver and an hour. We pre-drill the holes for you. In addition, all of the heavy gauge wire is preinstalled on the panels etc. You will be pleasantly surprised by how easy it will be to assemble!
- Top Quality Construction: heavy gauge hardware, wire mesh, flashing above nesting boxes, heavy sliding poop tray, acrylic sliding window, support under nesting boxes!
- Well-Engineered: VERY SOLID with support under the nesting box, diagonal wood supports on all panels.
- A lot of space: 76”long x 31.5″wide, 2 roosting rods, 15 inches of clearance under the hen house etc. (Note the roof makes it 34″ wide)
- Easy to Assemble: EACH piece is labeled, we write our own instructions, we pre-drill holes!
- 3 entrance doors to the run making easy access to the floor space under the hen house. This allows for easy cleaning and for letting the girls in and out when free ranging.
Note the Leghorn Cottage Chicken Coop for 4+ chickens is not compatible with any of the chicken guard auto doors we have listed on our site.
Final Suggestions:
Since they are made of wood and will be outside 24/7, we STRONGLY recommend that you stain, lacquer or paint your coop. The stain applied is a base coat that is not designed to protect your coop long term from the elements. Often in transit parts can get dinged or scratched etc. You may need to touch up your coop before staining or painting it! Once set up we recommend anchoring it down, this can be as simple as a stake on each side of the hen house and run area. As much as we have tried to predator-proof our coops, you know your area best and you may want to put chicken wire around your coop, or put pavers. You’ll always want to double-check hardware and latches to make sure everything is tight and secure. Larger predators like bears you will want to look at installing an electric fence around the perimeter.
